Choose a busy, well-known place such as a market, campus, or shop front. Avoid private homes, empty lots, or secluded streets.
Keep reasonable hours
Meet during the day or early evening. Do not agree to late-night or last-minute changes to a remote spot.
Inspect before you pay
Check the item in person. Turn it on, try the size, or look for damage. Do not send money before you have seen it.
Do not go alone if you can help it
Take a friend, or tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Keep payment simple
Pay at the meeting after you are satisfied. Avoid deposits, remote transfers, or anyone who rushes you.
Walk away
You do not owe anyone the sale. If the item, the story, or the place does not match, leave.
